The Devil's Deviled Eggs (and More Neighborhoody Goodness)
Once again proving that we have the best neighborhood in the universe, magical forces (and some great organizing by our neighbor Geoff and others) brought the neighborhood together for a Halloween potluck in the dead end by our house. We gathered in the late afternoon to share food and conversation and exclaim over one another's costumes, then everyone scattered around 7:00 to answer the door for trick or treaters.
In anticipation of all the sugar that comes with the holiday (and all the other stuff on my agenda for the day), I wanted to bring something super easy and savory, but theme-appropriate. I got this idea from the Hostess with the Mostess Blog (I know; that's a little Sandra Lee-esque, but it also fit all my criteria, so what're you going to do?)
Check it out! Spidery deviled eggs! Aren't they hilarious?
Here's a close-up so you can see how it's done. Just make your favorite deviled egg recipe, cut up some canned olives and arrange them on top, and you're good to go.
I also have to show you the wonderful severed-finger shortbread cookies with almonds and raspberry jam that my neighbor Monica made. They were as delicious as they were cool looking!
I was also in love with this perfect lobster dish...
Lots more photos of our shindig can be found here. Hope everyone had a happy Halloween!
Okay. The shortbread fingers plain freaked me out, perhaps not as much as seeing a pooch emerging - Thing-like - from the innards of a lobster. The deviled-eggs just made me crave something I eat far too infrequently.
ReplyDeleteAh, to be Halloween and be able to wear short sleeves and shorts (or short skirts, as the case may be).
ReplyDeleteThe bonus to being in Minnesota, though, is the jackets under costumes really make spidermen and supermen look buff.
And I'm with Peter. Those fingers were freaky.
